Nottingham Forest have parted company with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo after 21 months at the helm.
The Portuguese manager’s future had been in doubt for several weeks following his public admission that his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis had broken down.
Talks are already under way to appoint a successor, with an announcement expected soon. Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is among the leading candidates.
In a statement released just after midnight, Forest thanked Nuno for his “contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground,” adding that he would “always hold a special place” in the club’s story.
Nuno took charge in December 2023 following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, with Forest sitting 17th in the Premier League and struggling for form.
He quickly turned things around, guiding the team to safety and, in the following season, leading them to a seventh-place finish—their best in the Premier League since 1994–95—and securing European qualification for the first time in over 30 years.
His success earned him a new three-year contract in June. However, Forest have had an inconsistent start to the current campaign and currently sit 10th in the table, having lost 3-0 at home to West Ham just before the September international break.
During his tenure, Nuno managed 73 games in all competitions, winning 28, drawing 20, and losing 25. His first few weeks in charge were marked by impressive victories, including a 3-1 win away at Newcastle United and a 2-1 home victory over Manchester United.
Despite his achievements, the breakdown in relations with the club hierarchy ultimately proved decisive in his departure.
