The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced the suspension of all scheduled football matches following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday morning while receiving medical treatment in India.

This decision comes after President William Ruto declared a seven-day period of national mourning, during which all national flags will be flown at half-mast in honour of the late statesman.

“In light of the Government’s declaration of a week-long National Mourning to honour the life and legacy of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation has suspended all league fixtures during this period,” FKF said in an official statement. “We stand in solidarity with the nation in mourning the loss of a visionary leader and a dedicated supporter of Kenyan football. May he rest in eternal peace.”

The suspension affects seven FKF Premier League matches that were set to take place beginning Saturday, October 18. Among the fixtures affected: Mara Sugar was set to host Bidco United, while APS Bomet was scheduled to play away against Kariobangi Sharks.

Gor Mahia’s clash with Posta Rangers, initially scheduled for Mashujaa Day on Monday, has also been postponed.

FKF is expected to announce new dates for the rescheduled matches at a later time.
