The National Land Commission (NLC) had the privilege of hosting a meeting with a well-known and accomplished ecopreneur and the environmental advocate, Dr. Isaac Kalua Green.
The meeting was to explore new ways of deepening collaborations in the field of sustainable land governance. NLC CEO CHRP Kabale Tache Arero along with the other officials welcomed Dr. Kalua to their Nairobi Commission’s headquarters. He handed over the first copies of his new book “Green for Life” to the commission. The book presents a comprehensive and visionary approach to the triple challenges of the economy, society, and the environment in Kenya.
The solution, according to the Green Philosophy—the leading theme of the book which is an ideology based on love, sustainable livelihoods, and the environment for the future, embodies the idea of a kind and a living earth for all.
The head of the commission, Arero, said that Dr. Kalua’s philosophical Green approach fits in with the Commission’s idea of ensuring a responsible and sustainable land management system in the first place.
“With a visionary approach like Dr. Kalua’s that goes hand-in-hand with our work at the National Land Commission. Environmentally friendly and responsible land management is at the core of environmental conservation and sustainable development. Our duty to allocate, manage and plan for public land should not at any point compromise the ecosystems and natural resources that are the heritage of the future generations,” Arero stated.
During the session, the need for environmental protection laws to be enforced in the use of land through proper planning, public land administration, and national development programs was emphasized. Both leaders spoken about their joint willingness to take further steps towards collaboration on projects that will contribute to Kenya’s sustainability agenda.
Through his long-standing leadership of environmental advocacy, Dr. Kalua has been the very agent who gave a loud voice to the communal obligation which is the foundation upon which the commission’s work rests; the usage of land resources in ways that combine economic growth with ecological protection thus paving the way for joint programs aimed at a green and resilient future for the country.
