The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has formally submitted a report to the Senate detailing concerns over the growing trend of inflammatory remarks by public figures and political leaders.

In a letter addressed to Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, DPP Renson Ingonga confirmed that the report had been prepared in response to requests from the Senate Standing Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration. The Committee had sought updates through letters dated October 24 and November 11.

Ingonga said the ODPP welcomed the engagement, noting that the Committee plays a critical oversight role in safeguarding national cohesion. The report submitted outlines the ODPP’s mandate, status of high-profile cases, inter-agency collaboration efforts, challenges encountered, and recommendations for strengthening enforcement.

“The ODPP assures this Committee that it will discharge its mandate as per the Constitution and the law, without fear, favour or prejudice,” Ingonga wrote, reiterating the office’s commitment to fairness under its motto Mashtaka Yenye Haki na Usawa.

High-Profile Cases Before Court

The ODPP’s submission also highlights several ongoing cases linked to inflammatory or unlawful political conduct:

Jayne Kihara, MP for Naivasha whose Proceedings were halted by a High Court stay order and plea deferred. The matter will be mentioned on November 27, 2025.

Ferdinand Waititu, former Kiambu Governor – Case set for hearing on January 15, 2026. Peter Kalerwa Salasya, MP for Mumias East – Scheduled for hearing on January 17, 2026.
