Twelve people lost their lives on Thursday evening in a horrific road accident at Arimi area along the Njoro–Elburgon Road.

According to Nakuru County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara, the crash involved a 14-seater matatu and a lorry. The impact left multiple casualties at the scene.

Elburgon MCA Peter Njuguna Mwaura, who spoke to journalists at the scene, confirmed that the victims’ bodies were taken to the Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

He urged authorities to urgently rehabilitate the road to curb the rising number of accidents in the area.

The Kenya Red Cross reported that its first responders were on-site, providing both first aid and psychosocial support to the injured and affected families.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika extended her condolences to the bereaved families and emphasized the need for greater road safety. She urged motorists to exercise caution, follow traffic rules, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

“Many of the accidents we witness in Nakuru and across the country can be prevented if drivers adhere to traffic regulations and prioritize safety,” Governor Kihika stated.

She also called on traffic police to enforce road safety laws strictly, promising collaboration from her administration in efforts to reduce road accidents.

“May the Lord grant strength and comfort to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragedy,” she added.
