President William Ruto’s meeting with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, at State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, January 21, has raised eyebrows.
On Wednesday, President Ruto presided over the Presidential Gold Awards Presentation event, in which Muhoho graced in his capacity as a representative of the International Council of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a youth achievement program for ages 14-24, with Muhoho being the chair of the African region.
In his speech and with a smile, President Ruto paused to acknowledge Muhoho’s presence ,“I am happy my friend, the representative, is in our midst, Muhoho Kenyatta,” a recognition that drew attention from other guests and Kenyans at large.
Some quarters say Muhoho’s State House visit, photo moments with President Ruto and the ensuing recognition in his official speech are more than meets the eye.
Other political pundits said the duo must have extended their discussions beyond the awards, and with the 2027 General Election not far away, a political discourse must have sneaked into their conversation.
Here are some comments sampled by TUKIO.co.ke:
"This is Muhoho Kenyatta. The Kenyatta's Raymond Redington. Uhuru Kenyatta is gone! Tell me why would Uhuru Kenyatta support Kalonzo Musyoka or Fred Matiang'i if Ruto can give him what the duo are promising in 2027? Kenyattas and Odingas are businessmen. They will choose profit over liberation!" said DCI Meru.
"What was Muhoho Kenyatta doing in the State House today????? When I doubt Jubilee I know what am saying, is it a long con??" posed Mary Njoroge.
"President Ruto's Meeting with Muhoho Kenyatta on the Day of NCBA's Bank Sale More Than What Meets The Eye," assumed EN.
"Uhuru Kenyatta dispatched his Broker-In-Chief and brother Muhoho Kenyatta to State House, Nairobi for high profile talks with President Ruto. Hii siasa iko na maneno. Acheni kuweka siasa kwa roho," said Jimmy.
Still, some argue Muhoho might be President Ruto’s running mate in 2027.
