Netflix officially confirms a prequel series to Bridgerton is in development stating that it will focus on a young version of Bridgerton family matriarch Lady Violet.
The currently untitled limited series will follow in similar, chronicling the years of the Bridgerton matriarch, played by Ruth Gemmell in the main series.
Although Netflix is yet to reveal the title or release date, the prequel is expected to explore the origins of the Bridgerton universe, offering deeper insight into the family legacies, social expectations and cultural dynamics.
Early reports suggest the series will focus on backstories of beloved characters, weaving new narratives while maintaining aesthetic and emotional depth that would define the original.
Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini are the executive producers who are expected to write and to showrun, directed by Bridgerton veteran Tom Verica.
Bridgerton was premiered in 2020, based on the book series by Julia Quinn and became a cultural phenomenon over the years.
The prequel promises to build this legacy, offering a fresh perspective while it continues to challenge the historical dramas.
