The Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro chaired powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee in the National Assembly, is among the 18 whose term has lapsed.

In a communication during the first sitting on Tuesday, February 11, after MPs returned from recess, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced that the 18 committees are set for reconstitution.

In the reconstitution, the committees will have new members and chairpersons with the option of the current members and heads retaining the seats.

With the current political dynamics, it will be interesting to see if Nyoro will still be reappointed to head the powerful committee, will be moved to another, or will be dropped.

It is worth noting that there has been a tittle-tattle that Nyoro could be removed from the position for fence seating.

During the impeachment of then deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, the Kiharu gave the exercise a wide berth despite being pushed by pro-government lawmakers.

Nyoro has also been less vocal in communicating President William Ruto’s government’s initiatives, unlike earlier before.

Other committees set for reconstitution are:

  1. The House Business Committee
  2. The Committee on Members’ Services and Facilities
  3. The Committee of Powers and Privileges and
  4. The Procedure & House Rules Committee.
  5. The Public Accounts Committee
  6. The Special Funds Accounts Committee
  7. The Decentralized Funds Accounts
  8. The Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education
  9. The Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs and Energy
  10. The Public Investments Committee on Social Services, Administration & Agriculture
  11. The Public Debt and Privatization Committee
  12. The Public Petitions Committee
  13. The Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committe
  14. The Committee on Implementation
