Ndindi Nyoro has dismissed claims circulating online that he was arrested, clarifying that the viral video fueling the reports is an old clip recorded in 2019.
In a statement issued on March 13, the legislator termed the reports inaccurate and reassured Kenyans that he is safe and continuing with his normal activities.
“We have no idea of the motive of the inaccurate circulating information. The video is from 2019. I’m fine and well. Thank you everyone for your concern. We are African and Africa is our Business,” Nyoro said.
The Kiharu MP further revealed that he was preparing to preside over the launch of three new laboratories at Karemaini Secondary School later in the day.
The clarification comes after social media reports claimed that the MP had been arrested, sparking concern among his supporters and members of the public.
However, checks indicate that the video currently circulating online is from 2019 when Nyoro was briefly caught up in a political standoff in Murang’a County.
At the time, police attempted to arrest the legislator following a confrontation that erupted during a church service involving rival political factions.
The standoff reportedly involved allies of the then ruling faction known as Kieleweke and supporters of the Tanga Tanga camp.
The incident followed a disagreement during the church event when Nyoro declined to hand over the microphone to then-nominated MP Maina Kamanda, arguing that as the area MP he should have been the one to invite guests to address the congregation.
Kamanda, however, insisted that the MPs present at the event were his invited guests, leading to a heated exchange between the two political camps.
Police later attempted to arrest Nyoro outside the church, but he was shielded by his supporters.
Authorities at the time, including then Murang’a County Criminal Investigations officer Julius Rutere, had asked the MP to surrender at the nearest police station following the incident.
Nyoro had also accused political rivals of targeting him due to his association with the Tanga Tanga faction during the heated political rivalry that preceded the 2022 general election.
Despite the resurfacing of the old footage, the MP has now clarified that the video does not reflect any recent incident and urged the public to disregard the claims.
