National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Webuye West Member of Parliament Dan Wanyama following comments he made last week about the Mountain region.

In a notice dated January 27, the NCIC instructed the MP to appear at their headquarters on Wednesday, January 29, at 10 am to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The remarks in question were made on January 19 during an Interdenominational Prayer event in Bungoma County, where Wanyama allegedly made divisive statements that could undermine community harmony.

“The Mountain is already slippery and will remain slippery forever. If we all come together, we can isolate them. It will be us against them. I have no fear in saying that,” MP Wanyama stated.

The NCIC has expressed concern that these remarks could foster contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, and discrimination, which could disrupt peaceful coexistence among Kenya’s diverse communities.

This summons follows a recent warning from the NCIC about the increasing trend of politicians using inflammatory language at public rallies.
