President William Ruto has held talks with Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio in New York, with the two leaders agreeing to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment and other key sectors.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where the two leaders discussed areas of mutual interest between Kenya and Sierra Leone.
Ruto said the two countries will expand cooperation in trade and investment, energy, mining and green industrialisation as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations.
The leaders also agreed to work together in pushing for reforms to the United Nations Security Council and the international financial architecture.
Ruto said Kenya and Sierra Leone will establish a Joint Commission to oversee the implementation of agreements reached between the two countries.
The commission will focus on areas including tourism, wildlife and air connectivity, with the two countries exploring the establishment of direct flights between Nairobi and Freetown.
The proposed direct air connection is expected to strengthen people-to-people ties while supporting tourism, trade and business links between Kenya and Sierra Leone.
The talks come as Kenya continues to use bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to expand economic partnerships with other countries and push for reforms in global institutions.
Ruto and Bio also participated in discussions on artificial intelligence and cooperation among middle powers during the UN General Assembly, alongside Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
