National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has launched the social cohesion, anti-hate speech and gender equality campaign countrywide as the nation prepares for the 2027 General Elections.

Oliver Metet, Deputy Director of Corporate Communications for the Commission, indicated at the launch that there were many people interested in buying into the programmes that have been largely institutionalized through the National Peace Accord.

He noted that these programmes, which have already been given political support, are the right platforms for election transformation talk, and if they get public goodwill, then the elections will certainly be different.

Metet revealed that the NGO Board has approved the resumption of the NGO Peace and Development Work Forum (PWDW) which is a peacebuilding partner alongside the Peace Committee at the County and Sub, County levels.

The first part of the plan will take place in five counties ie Isiolo, Mandera, Garissa, Laikipia, and Marsabit before being rolled out to other areas.

The Commission stated that the chosen counties had been areas of increased tensions related to political rivalry and ethnic divisions.

NCIC is of the view that the programme will be done in partnership with local leaders, civil society organizations, youth groups, and media stakeholders to guarantee everyone’s involvement and long, lasting effect.

The Commission is very sure that timely measures will not only prevent disintegration messages but also promote peaceful coexistence as the country prepares for 2027 elections.
