Narok County residents have been reminded of the importance of getting involved in the ongoing national ID registration exercise which is aimed at ensuring that they are not left out of vital government services and opportunities.
This appeal was made by the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Immigration, Dr. Belio Kipsang, during an ID issuance exercise at Edonyorasha in Narok West Sub-County. According to Dr. Kipsang, one of the fundamental requirements for students to benefit from university scholarships is to have a national ID card besides other essential uses he mentioned that the national ID card is a must for accessing a variety of services such as university scholarships, loan facilities, purchase of fertilizer at a subsidized rate, the Inua Jamii programme, and enrollment under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Dr. Kipsang went on to explain that the government has stepped up the registration process to such an extent that new applicants can now be issued with their ID cards within one to three days, which is a big change from the previous waiting periods which used to take months, in some cases even more.
According to Dr. Kipsang, the rapid change of direction is brought about by the department’s ongoing internal reforms, which are intended to improve the quality of service delivery and ensure that all Kenyans who qualify are not excluded from enjoying the government opportunities.
The local leaders who were part of the event also appealed to the people, particularly the youth, to go out an grab the opportunity presented by the expeditious process to obtain the document that is very crucial to them.
The nationwide registration drive is part of government efforts to boost service accessibility, improve data accuracy, and strengthen national planning.
