Tanzanian music sensation Nandy has confirmed that former label artist Yammi was required to pay a significant fee of TSh 100 million (approximately KSh 4.8 million) to end her recording contract before the agreed period. The singer addressed the issue publicly, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the early termination and clarifying that the amount was part of the original contract terms.
Speaking during a press briefing, Nandy explained that while the TSh 100 million figure was contractually binding, it could have been even higher. However, out of respect for their working relationship and Yammiβs status as a young, emerging artist, they reached a mutual understanding. βItβs true because thatβs how the contract agreement was; if you terminate before the agreed time,β Nandy said. βI think it would have been even more than that, but due to our good relationship and because she is still a young artist who is finding her way, we gave her a chance to decide what price she was comfortable with, and she was comfortable with that price, so we accepted it as a thank you.β
Yammi, for her part, has been open about the emotional toll the situation took on her. She admitted that dealing with such a large financial responsibility led to stress and even depression, making the transition out of the label one of the hardest moments of her career.
Despite the difficult decision, Nandyβs team made it clear that there is no animosity between the two. They emphasised that the separation was handled professionally and with mutual respect. According to them, Yammi had already benefited greatly from the partnership, gaining exposure, industry experience, and various opportunities to grow her career.
