Namibia and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through a series of diplomatic consultations hosted in Windhoek.
Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, EGH, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, led the discussions aimed at consolidating cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting provided a platform for the two leaders to review the status of the Inaugural Session of the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC), which took place at the senior officials’ level on 9 September 2024.
Both ministers emphasized the need for rigorous implementation of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding to ensure effective collaboration on joint projects and programs.
Trade was highlighted as a pivotal factor for economic growth, with both nations underscoring the importance of mobilizing public and private sectors to exploit pro-business policies.
The ministers also noted the potential of regional trade agreements such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (TFTA) in enhancing trade opportunities.
Namibia will host the 2nd Session of the JPCC in 2025, with exact dates to be confirmed. The ministers expressed their intent to maintain strong diplomatic relations through regular consultations, aiming to track progress and address bilateral issues effectively.
The ministers acknowledged H.E. Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission Chairperson and supported Namibia’s Maj. Gen. Anne-Marie Nainda for INTERPOL Vice President for Africa.
Dr. Mudavadi expressed gratitude for Namibia’s warm hospitality and productive discussions, while Dr. Mushelenga looked forward to hosting the Kenyan delegation again for the forthcoming JPCC session in Windhoek.
The consultations reflect a shared commitment to fostering a robust partnership between Namibia and Kenya, grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and collaborative efforts to tackle both regional and global challenges.
“This platform offered a valuable opportunity to further deepen the strategic partnership between our nations. We reaffirmed our commitment to continued cooperation in vital sectors, including Health, Trade and Investment, Security, Agriculture, the Blue Economy, and Education,” he said.
