Naivas Supermarket has added a new chapter to its expansion story by opening the 113rd outlet at the Shell Athi River service station. With the addition of this new branch, the retailer doubles its promise of delivering quality, affordability, and convenience to Kenyan consumers.
During the launch, Naivas CEO Andreas von Paleske highlighted the fact that the retailer’s strategy is to make the Athi River store a hub for convenience in urban areas that are rapidly growing.
“We are committed to deepening convenience for our customers and for that reason opening in Athi River is a natural step. It is one of the fastest-growing urban corridors in Kenya, and we take great pride in bringing our fresh food, low prices, and excellent service to this dynamic community,” he declared.
Kenya’s retail sector has been on an upward trajectory and is mainly supported by a growing middle class, rapid urbanisation, and an increasing demand for convenience shopping.
Naivas has remained the market leader by constantly improving fresh food offerings, implementing value pricing, raising the customer experience, and adopting technology-driven operations.
The unveiling of the new Athi River store was an event that brought together Vivo Energy Kenya, Pharma Plus, and BasiGo, an electric vehicle company, to create a modern convenience hub that combines fuel services, retail essentials, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable transport solutions.
Vivo Energy Kenya Managing Director Peter Murungi put a lot of emphasis on the importance of this collaboration.
“The cooperation between us and Naivas is an example of our dream for a modern service station- a place where customers can refuel, shop, access essential services, and generally have a great experience. The Athi River site is a realization of this dream, and as such, it extends the ultimate convenience to everyone who comes through the gate,” he stated.
Pharma Plus’ participation is a response to an increasing demand for easily accessible and reliable pharmaceutical services in Kenya, while the innovations from BasiGo and Vivo Energy set the pace for the future of mobility and energy retail.
The new Naivas outlet is equipped to provide a full grocery service to the local community, including fresh produce, household goods, bread, and ready-to-eat meals. It is thus able to meet the needs of families, commuters, and businesses in Athi River and the surrounding neighborhoods.
