Top Nairobi City County Government officials and all Members of County Assembly (MCAs) will be in Bondo on Saturday, November 7, to pay homage to Mama Ida Odinga and give their tributes.
The Informer has learned that Governor Johnson Sakaja in conjunction with the House Speaker Ken Ng’ondi have organized the visit, which is said to be laced with underlying political factors.
Governor Sakaja will join the team on Saturday. The governor will be visiting Kang’o Ka Jaramogi and Opoda Farm for the umpteenth time since the demise of the founding ODM leader.
Sources indicated a private plane has been hired for the entourage scheduled to visit Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the gravesite of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga on November 8, 2025.
Raila Odinga was accorded a State burial on October 19, following his death in India’s southern state of Kerala, on October 15, while on treatment.
The team comprising County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), MCAs and staff of the county assembly will visit Opoda Farm to pay homage and convey their tributes to Mama Ida and the Odinga family.
An official at City Hall who is privy to the arrangements said they have strict timelines to arrive at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi by 11 am on Saturday. The assembly officials have been given allowances to attend the event.
They are expected to be through with their session by noon, for other delegations and individuals that have continued streaming in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi and Opoda Farm to also pay homage and convey their tributes to the family.
According to the county official, four hired buses are already on standby in Kisumu to pick City Hall entourage from the airport to Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya county.
A county legislator who sought anonymity intimated to The Informer that Sakaja could be making frantic efforts through the Odinga family to be accommodated in ODM for his re-election bid.
But the Ward representative noted that the governor has not fulfilled the agreement he made with MCAs in a meeting presided over by Raila Odinga at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation on September 2, 2025 to avert his impeachment.
In a recent television interview, Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai indicated the grace period was to lapse on October 3, 2025.
Alai explained that instead, Sakaja had positioned opponents in all the Wards where the sitting MCAs were not in good books with him.
But the MCAs say the governor’s action is counter productive because they raised 104 signatures to endorse his impeachment process, and the documents were in safe custody.
President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga separately held meetings with MCAs over the issue. Both leaders agreed with the MCAs to halt the impeachment process and allow Governor Sakaja 60 days to resolve the grievances they laid on the table but nothing has been accomplished.
This is among the reasons Sakaja is making frequent visits to the home of Raila Odinga in the hope of possible reincarnation and endorsement to defend his seat on ODM ticket.
However, in a recent interview with NTV, the acting party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga aka youth leader, candidly pointed out that Sakaja was not a member of ODM.
Further, insiders familiar with post-election affairs in ODM intimated that upon his election in 2022, Sakaja rubbed Senator Oginga the wrong way. He is therefore seeking to appease his political gods for survival.
Under the same political breath, the passing of Raila Odinga has thrown several ODM Members of County Assembly into confusion. Several of them had decided they would upgrade and run for parliamentary seats in the capital city, banking on Raila’s support.
It is now apparent that those who mooted such political ventures and ambition now prefer to defend the county assembly seats they hold currently.
The MCAs say Sakaja has appointed his point men in each Ward where he feels the MCA is opposed to him.
County legislators claim the governor uses the appointees referred to as Ward Coordinators to handle some official county matters yet they are neither elected leaders nor employees.
