Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced plans to revamp the Nairobi Central Business District in a move aimed at giving the City centre a facelift.
The county boss said his adminstration will soon get rid of all potholes in the CBD and put in place a mechanism that will ensure wastes are collected swiftly to enhance sanitation.
"The CBD restoration program is our priority. We will fix all the roads in the CBD. We will ensure that our roads within the CBD are made, providing a better Nairobi for all road users to enjoy. We have to make it work," he said.
“We will also ensure the installation of dustbins to ensure cleanliness,” the Governor added.
Sakaja announced these plans during an entry audit meeting with the county executive and representatives from the Office of the Auditor General.
He said that with the county achieving a record revenue collection of Sh12.8 billion, the county is ready to roll out the CBD restoration project.
Sakaja also announced plans to install streetlights in areas currently lacking proper lighting, particularly focusing on dark spots that pose security threats to residents.
"We need to restore the city as a capital city and bring back the glory it deserves," said the Governor.
Governor Sakaja reassured the representatives from the Auditor General’s office that all projects would be carried out in strict accordance with the law.
He emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability throughout the restoration process.
