Major (Rtd.) Abdikadir Mohamed Shabelo has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party after resigning from KANU, marking the latest high-profile political shift to the ruling party.
UDA Secretary General, Senator , formally welcomed Shabelo to the party, describing his move as a boost to UDA’s growing national support.
According to the party, Shabelo’s decision followed a period of deep reflection, extensive consultations with his community, and a careful assessment of his political beliefs, the prevailing political landscape, and UDA’s vision for the country.
Shabelo said his decision was guided by his commitment to meaningful national development and transformative leadership, expressing confidence that UDA provides the right platform to advance these objectives.
He praised the party for what he described as its responsiveness to national challenges through timely and practical solutions aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.
The retired military officer also commended UDA’s leadership for remaining visible, accessible, and closely connected to grassroots communities, saying these qualities have made the party an attractive political home for leaders focused on public service.
His defection adds to a series of political realignments as parties continue to strengthen their ranks ahead of future political engagements, with UDA maintaining efforts to expand its support base across the country.
