Former presidential candidate Mwalimu Mohamed Abduba Dida has been freed after serving a three-year jail term in a United States of America prison.

The two-time presidential candidate was incarcerated in 2022 at the Big Muddy River Correctional Center in Illinois for stalking and threatening his wife, Shannon, with whom he had a child.

Dida was expected to leave the aforementioned facility on April 3, 2029, after he was initially sentenced to 7 years; however, he was released on parole.

This means the politician will serve the remainder of his sentence, offering philanthropic services to the community in the United States under supervision.

After reports of his imprisonment went viral, Dida’s family narrated that he travelled to the US in 2019 to further his education. While in the US, he met Shannon and married her.

The lady would later get a restraining order against Dida after a domestic dispute. His family claimed he was jailed after he unknowingly violated the order.

They asked the Kenyan government to intervene for their kin to secure freedom.
