Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has lashed out at the National Police Service, accusing it of theatrics and inaction over the murder of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang.
Speaking at a rally in Kanyuambora Market, Embu County, Muturi said that despite public outrage, authorities had made no meaningful arrests since Ojwang’s body was discovered in Nairobi, a week after he was picked up by detectives in Homa Bay.
He directly challenged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Inspector General Douglas Kanja, saying they had failed in their mandate to ensure public safety amid a growing trend of abductions and extrajudicial killings.
“If DCI Director Mohamed Amin, IG Kanja, and Deputy IG Eliud Lagat can’t do their job, they should resign,” Muturi said.
He questioned why DIG Lagat, who has been linked to Ojwang’s death, had not been suspended or compelled to step aside, noting that Lagat was reportedly the complainant in a case related to critical content the blogger had posted yet no formal statement had been recorded.
Muturi also accused the government of double standards, saying it had pushed for former IG Japhet Koome’s resignation after last year’s Gen Z protests, yet remained silent on Lagat’s role in this high-profile case.
