President William Ruto is expected to officially launch the construction of Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Kenya Railway revealed the plans on Sunday on their social media accounts .
The Statement revealed that the groundbreaking ceremony will take place in two phases beginning on March 19, 2026, when the President will preside over the launch of the Naivasha–Kisumu section at Narok Teachers Training College.
The second phase will follow on March 21, 2026, with the launch of the Kisumu–Malaba section at Kibos in Kisumu County.
The project is the extension of the existing Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway and the Nairobi–Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway.
