Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, arrived in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, on June 9 to engage in ministerial talks aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation between Kenya and China.

During his visit, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of meaningful dialogue to enhance partnerships that support Kenya’s development goals.

A key highlight of his trip was a visit to the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Centre at the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences (HUNAAS) in Mapoling, where he observed China’s innovative approaches to rice production.

“There is much Kenya can learn from this success as we strengthen partnerships and pursue sustainable agricultural solutions,” Mudavadi remarked. He noted that Kenya has the potential to triple its rice yields in a single season by adopting the right seed varieties, improved agronomic practices, and strategic fertilizer use, which would significantly boost the country’s food security.

In addition to agriculture, Mudavadi toured a film production facility at the Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industrial Park.

The park is home to over 60,000 young innovators who earn a living by transforming their creativity into marketable content.

“Kenya, with its rich talent and youthful energy, has the potential to replicate such a model,” Mudavadi said. “With the right investment and support, our creative sector could generate thousands of jobs and sustainable livelihoods for aspiring content creators across the country.”

The Prime Cabinet Secretary’s visit underscores Kenya’s commitment to learning from global best practices and fostering strategic partnerships that drive socio-economic transformation.
