Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening longstanding cultural and socioeconomic ties with Somalia during bilateral talks held on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ministers’ Summit.

Mudavadi highlighted the historical bonds between the two nations, which date back to the pre-independence era, and emphasized their shared aspirations for peace, stability, and regional prosperity.

“Kenya and Somalia share longstanding cultural and socioeconomic ties that trace back to the pre-independence era. In recent years, these bonds have continued to grow, underpinned by shared aspirations for peace, stability, and regional prosperity,” he said.

During the meeting with Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, both sides agreed to expedite the convening of Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meetings to finalize key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening collaboration across various sectors.

H.E. Ali expressed Somalia’s deep appreciation for Kenya’s steadfast support over the past 25 years, particularly in advancing peace and stability through the deployment of security personnel under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya’s unwavering commitment to good neighbourliness and reiterated the resolve to deepen bilateral engagement for mutual benefit.

The discussions were attended by Kenya’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Willy Bett; Somalia’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Mrs. Hodan Osman Abdi; Ambassador Jane Makori, Director of Asian Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and her Somali counterpart, Mr. Said Jama Mire, Director-General of Asian Affairs at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
