Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday joined family, friends and residents of Kabarak in mourning 18-year-old Mitchelle Jelimo Kemboi, the daughter of Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Captain William Ruto.
In a message shared after the burial, Murkomen described the moment as deeply painful, noting that the young girl had left a lasting impression on those who knew her.
Mitchelle, who died following a tragic road accident in Taita Taveta while travelling with her family for the Easter holiday, was laid to rest at the family home in Kabarak.
The accident occurred after the family’s vehicle rammed into a stalled trailer that had no warning signs, leading to her death on the spot while other family members survived with injuries.
At just 18, Murkomen said, Mitchelle stood out for her kindness and the way she connected with people around her, adding that her short life still carried meaning for many.
Quoting scripture, he expressed hope and comfort for the grieving family, saying God remains close to those who are hurting.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit, ” he said.
Leaders, relatives and members of the Kabarak community turned up in large numbers for the emotional send-off, as tributes poured in celebrating a life many described as bright and full of promise.
Murkomen extended his condolences to the family, calling for strength and unity during what he termed a difficult period, as the country continues to come to terms with the loss.
