The ongoing construction of the Ngong-Suswa Road, a 70-kilometre transport corridor cutting through Kajiado North and Kajiado West Sub-Counties, is nearing completion with 90 percent of the work already done.

The project, which falls under the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), is poised to become a vital link connecting Nairobi to counties in the Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.

According to Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, the infrastructure is a strategic investment aimed at boosting regional connectivity, enhancing trade, and unlocking economic potential for communities along the route.

Once complete, the road will provide an alternative to the frequently congested Nairobi-Mai Mahiu highway, easing travel for motorists heading to destinations such as Narok, Bomet, Kisii, and Kericho.β€œThe Ngong-Suswa Road is a game-changer in addressing long-standing transport challenges between Nairobi and the western parts of the country.

Its completion will mark a significant milestone in our efforts to deliver inclusive economic development,” said Dr. Omollo.Notable progress has been made in key sections such as Ngong-Kibiku, with the entire road expected to be fully operational in the near future.

Beyond its transport function, the road is already catalyzing economic activity along its corridor. Real estate developments have sprung up in previously remote areas, with rising land values attracting investments in commercial properties, petrol stations, markets, and service centres.

Local communities are also reaping the benefits. Livestock traders and farmers involved in agribusiness are now enjoying easier access to larger markets, translating into better incomes and more robust rural economies.

The government views the road as a cornerstone of its efforts to decentralize development and empower grassroots communities under the BETA framework.

Once fully completed, the Ngong-Suswa Road is expected to significantly reduce travel time, cut transport costs, and drive sustained growth across multiple sectors in the region.
