Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called for closer collaboration between the judiciary and security agencies to promote fairness, efficiency, and accountability in Kenya’s justice system.
Speaking during the launch of the Administration of Justice in Kenya Annual Report 2024/2025 and the Justice Sector Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework in Nairobi, Murkomen stressed that an effective justice system can only thrive when all state agencies involved in law enforcement, prosecution, and corrections work in harmony.
“I urge stakeholders in the justice sector to work together. Let’s strengthen the court users committees which are important in fostering closer working relationships among key players in the criminal and justice system, especially at the grassroots,” he said.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasised that mutual accountability among institutions remains key to improving justice delivery across the country.
“But may I also ask something of all the institutions represented here: stay open to feedback. When we point out areas for improvement, consider them seriously. When you point out where we are falling short, we will do the same,” Murkomen noted. “That mutual accountability is what will make us excellent, not just good enough.”
He added that the growing demand for justice and security calls for efficiency and innovation across all arms of the justice sector, urging institutions to make full use of the newly launched MEL Framework and the annual report as roadmaps to deliver the justice Kenyans deserve.
The launch brought together representatives from the judiciary, the National Police Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and other justice sector stakeholders, all united in their commitment to strengthening Kenya’s justice and security systems.
