President William Ruto has led Kenyans in mourning the passing of celebrated gospel artist Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, describing her as “an extraordinary gospel artiste whose voice carried hope into the hearts of countless Kenyans.”
In a touching message today on his official X account, President Ruto honored the memory of the singer whose music inspired faith, resilience, and healing across generations.
“We mourn the passing of Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, fondly known as Betty Bayo; an extraordinary gospel artiste whose voice carried hope into the hearts of countless Kenyans,” the President wrote.
Ruto pointed out that the breakthrough song from Betty Bayo, “11th Hour,” was an eternal anthem of divine turnaround that strengthened the faithful and comforted those seeking encouragement through gospel music.
“Her breakthrough hit, ‘11th Hour,’ was a powerful anthem of divine turnaround that inspired the faithful and comforted many who sought strength, healing and reassurance in gospel music,” he said.
For over 15 years, Betty Bayo has been a cornerstone in Kenya’s gospel music, inspiriting many with her sterling message of faith and endurance through adversity. President Ruto lauded her for always being steadfast in inspiring hope and positivity.
“Her message was consistent, clear, and heartfelt: never give up, no matter the hour, no matter the storm,” said the President.
Ruto concluded with an emotive reflection on her legacy, stating that as her voice has fallen silent, her ministry lives on through the people whom she has touched and the faith she has stirred.
“Though her voice is silent, her ministry continues in each heart she touched, each soul she lifted, and each life she helped to steady in difficult moments,” he said.
