A multi, agency security team has recovered bhang worth approximately KSh 4 million after an early morning raid in Ahero, Kisumu County.
During the operation, which involved officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the Anti, Narcotics Police Unit, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and regular police, several storage and peddling points within the town were targeted.
In the course of the raid, officers broke into a storage facility allegedly controlled by a notorious drug peddler and obtained large quantities of bhang. The suspect was apprehended on the spot. According to police sources, the individual is a seasoned offender who was released on bond only a week ago.
Furthermore, the team raided a drug peddling point situated just opposite the entrance of Ahero Girls School. School sources disclosed that the management had on numerous occasions requested the authorities to help them get the person arrested as they were worried the students would be exposed to drugs and unsafe, but their requests had unfortunately not been met.
NACADA officials have warned that the crackdown will continue, stressing that authorities are determined to dismantle drug networks operating in Ahero and its environs until
the illicit trade is completely wiped out of the area.
The recovered drugs were taken as exhibits, while the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
