Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces has caused public outrage after sharing controoversial remarks on his X platform. He posted,
“I’m sorry, but we will start arresting nyashless women. This is for the future of the country. We can’t have women that look like men.”
His recent comments have been perceived as objectifying, degrading and has been thought to undermine any efforts towards gender equality. The term ‘nyashless’ is a slang word that refers to women who don’t have promiment or well-endowed buttocks. Some Netizens have accused him of body shaming and spreading misogyny.
Outraged Netizens have turned to social media to demand apology and questioned why such an official would make such mean comments in public. The statement, according to critics, alienates women who don’t have a certain beauty standard.
Muhoozi followed with another comment that read, “All women with Nyashes are extremely intelligent! Muraregye!”—a follow-up that did little to calm the storm.
As the backlash continues to grow, many are demanding not just an apology, but accountability.
