Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has named a peaceful, free and credible 2027 General Election among Kenya’s top diplomatic priorities.
Mudavadi made the remarks on Thursday while addressing members of the Diplomatic Corps in Nairobi, where he outlined six strategic priorities that Kenya will pursue through its foreign relations.
He said Kenya’s diplomatic engagement must ultimately translate into tangible benefits for citizens, including jobs, investment, bigger markets and greater opportunities for young people.
“Our diplomacy must deliver for the people we represent,” Mudavadi said.
He listed the peaceful conduct of the 2027 election alongside economic growth through trade and investment, deeper African integration, harnessing the strength of the Kenyan diaspora, advancing peace and security, and tackling emerging global challenges.
The challenges include food insecurity, climate change and health threats.
Mudavadi said the priorities were aimed at protecting Kenya’s interests while using the country’s global relationships to improve economic opportunities at home.
He said Kenya would also continue championing African-led solutions and defending multilateralism as it engages with countries and international organisations.
“Kenya’s voice on the global stage must be clear, confident and consequential,” he said.
The remarks come as Kenya steps up diplomatic engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the government seeking to assure international partners of its commitment to a credible electoral process.
Mudavadi has previously stressed the importance of free, fair and transparent elections in 2027, with the government pointing to the full constitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as an important step towards electoral credibility.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has also increasingly linked Kenya’s diplomatic agenda to economic growth, investment, regional integration and opportunities for young people.
Mudavadi said Nairobi would continue to position itself as Africa’s diplomatic capital and use its international relationships to advance Kenya’s interests beyond its borders.
“From Nairobi, Africa’s Diplomatic Capital, Kenya will continue to shape conversations beyond our borders,” he said.
