Elected leaders from the Mt Kenya East region have unanimously agreed to rally behind President William Ruto as he delivers his pledges to the people of Kenya.

The Mount Kenya East region consists of Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru counties.

In a statement after a meeting held on Monday, September 9, the leaders thanked Ruto for appointing three Cabinet Secretaries from the region, namely Justin Muturi, Kithure Kindiki and Eric Mugaa.

“Three appointments reflect the trust and recognition the president has placed on Mount Kenya East, and we are grateful for their opportunity to serve in the national leadership,” read the statement in part.

The leaders also pointed out the need for a strong linkage with the Executive to fast-track the region’s priorities.

Through collaboration and constant dialogue, they said they are confident that Mount Kenya East will progressively secure a stronger recognition in the national agenda.

Consequently, after comprehensive deliberations, they unanimously appointed Kindiki as the link between them and the Executive, ignoring Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The leaders resolved to push their socioeconomic development and political agenda as bloc.

“As a region, we have come of age and wish to henceforth canvass development matters affecting our people as distinct entity. We extend our deepest appreciation to His Excellency the President William Ruto for the many job opportunities already extended to our region. We further request that any future opportunities for employment be extended to our people. As leaders, we remain committed to ensuring the development of Mount Kenya East,” they added.
