National Assembly has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to speed up their investigations into the scary trend of Kenyans being enticed to join the ongoing Russia, Ukraine War.

Leader of Minority Party Kimani Ichung’wah, during a session with the house, revealed initial reports from the security agencies and expressed the risk of jeopardizing international relations if the situation is left unattended without a proper guide.

Ichungwah blamed some immigrants, foreign embassies and border control officials for negligence, stating that their lack of strict measures could have been one of the ways through which innocent Kenyans sneak into the areas ravaged by war.

Preliminary reports to Parliament as of February 2026 indicate that the crisis is of a large scale. Among other things, 39 Kenyan recruits have been hospitalised, 28 are unaccounted for, 36 have been taken to military camps, 30 have been repatriated to the country, and 89 are assumed to be at the war front.

Parliamentarians voiced their worry over the increasing practice of counterfeit recruitment agencies that disguise themselves as legitimate foreign job recruitment firms. The members of the house pointed fingers at the fraudulent “Kenya Majuu”

In a recent development, the MPs have requested the National Employment Authority to escalate its operations against dishonest recruitment agencies and enforce stricter regulations on overseas job placements for the protection of Kenyan citizens.

Parliament reiterated that safeguarding the welfare of Kenyans overseas is the chief concern and urged close collaboration between security agencies, immigration, and labour officials to effectively deal with trafficking networks that take advantage of individuals in dire need of jobs.
