Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo-Mabona has urged for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of veteran journalist Festus Amimo, head of Mayienga FM at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

Amimo, a respected radio presenter and former chairperson of the Luo Journalists Association, passed away on Sunday, December 7 — just hours after posting a tribute to a friend he had lost. The broadcaster’s sudden demise has stunned colleagues, listeners, and the broader media fraternity.

In a social media statement, Odhiambo-Mabona described the death as “shocking” and said such unexpected losses “must be investigated.” She pointed to previous calls by the sister of prominent opposition leader Raila Odinga, Dr. Akinyi Wenwa, implying that similar sudden deaths raise questions about possible links to COVID-19 vaccinations. The MP asked whether Amimo’s death — alongside other recent sudden deaths — could indeed be linked to the vaccines.

While the cause of Amimo’s death has not yet been made public, KBC said it is working with the family to establish what happened.

The call from Odhiambo-Mabona adds to mounting pressure on authorities to ensure transparency and accountability. It echoes past demands she has made over suspicious or unexplained deaths — especially those involving public figures — urging timely and thorough investigations to restore public confidence.

Meanwhile, tributes continue to pour in for Amimo. The media community, listeners and public officials alike have mourned the loss of a broadcaster whose voice and service touched many.
