Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused police of brutality and obstruction during his visit to Narok town on Monday, where he had gone to campaign for the party’s Narok Town Ward candidate, Douglas Masikonde.
Gachagua alleges that hundreds of police officers mounted a roadblock at Almashariani on the Narok–Bomet road, blocking his convoy and preventing him from accessing the town. He further claims his movement was disrupted by teargas and stone-throwing groups, blaming police and his political rivals for what he described as a calculated effort to create a tense and hostile political environment ahead of Thursday’s mini polls.
Meanwhile, the government has issued a stern warning to chiefs and assistant chiefs against participating in political activities, even as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) began distributing election materials to regions set to hold the by-elections.
Concerns have also emerged over alleged attempts to compromise the mini poll in Magarini, heightening scrutiny over electoral preparedness.
In Baringo County, political temperatures have eased following Gideon Moi’s withdrawal from the senatorial race. However, in Malava Constituency and Kariobangi North Ward, some candidates have warned that Thursday’s mini poll will merely serve as a “dress rehearsal” for larger political battles ahead.
