Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, popularly known as KJ, has vowed to champion the implementation of the World Scouts Parliamentary Union (WSPU) resolutions as he steps into his new role as the organisation’s global president.
In his inaugural address after being elected by the executive committee during the WSPU 11th General Assembly in Nairobi, Kiarie acknowledged the hurdles that lie ahead in realising the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals, the creative economy, and climate action—key themes of the conference.
“I assume office at a time of significant global upheaval. But there is room for us as scouts to leave a positive mark on the world,” he said.
Kiarie underscored the vital role of scouting within government, institutions, religion, families, and society at large, urging members to lead with courage and critical thought.
“A lot is happening around the world, and we are called to lead. Today the world is crying out for critical thinkers capable of making informed decisions, and WSPU, in its unique position, has an important role to play,” he noted.
He stressed the importance of fostering emotional intelligence and logical reasoning as essential skills for navigating everyday challenges.
Kiarie also encouraged delegates to take pride in their identity and heritage, saying that a strong sense of belonging fosters resilience and unity of purpose.
