Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale on Wednesday flagged off the first 100 fully electric vehicles from auto dealer MojaEv at the company’s offices in Nairobi.

This initiative marks a significant entry into Kenya’s growing e-mobility market with MojaEv’s Skyworth and NETA vehicle brands, aiming to reduce emissions and enhance air quality in urban areas.

The transport sector is a significant contributor to Kenya’s national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for approximately 10%.

Projections suggest that this figure could escalate to 17% by 2030, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable transportation solutions.

The growing uptake of electric vehicles is expected to play a crucial role in mitigating these emissions, supporting Kenya’s national emission reduction targets.

During the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Duale emphasized the importance of transitioning to e-mobility.

“The adoption of electric vehicles is central to our Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS), the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), and the 3rd National Climate Change Action Plan (NCAP III) launched last year by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto at the inaugural Africa Climate Summit.” he said.

Joining the Cabinet Secretary at the event were Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Gladys Boss Shollei and Industry PS Dr. Juma Mukhwana, who underscored the collective commitment of the government to foster an eco-friendly transport sector.
