The Ministry of Health and the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) are set to deepen their strategic partnership in public health and emergency response, following high-level discussions held today at Afya House, Nairobi.

Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale hosted a delegation from KRCS led by Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris, where the two parties explored new areas of collaboration to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare and disaster preparedness systems.

During the meeting, the KRCS team presented updates on their ongoing programs, which align closely with the Ministry’s six strategic health priorities. Hon. Duale commended the organization’s enduring support in health and emergency services, acknowledging KRCS’s critical auxiliary role in bolstering national efforts.

In a move aimed at formalizing and expanding this partnership, Hon. Duale proposed three key areas for enhanced collaboration:

1️⃣Formalize data-sharing protocols between KRCS’s community-based surveillance systems and the national epidemic intelligence platforms.

2️⃣Explore KRCS involvement in the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP).

3️⃣Develop a formal framework to guide KRCS’s role in emergency response and coordination, enhancing joint efforts in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health security.

“These proposed initiatives are vital to scaling up primary healthcare and ensuring equitable access to quality health services across the country,” said Hon. Duale.

He was joined by top health officials including Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, Acting Director General of the Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) Dr. Maureen Kamene, and NASCOP Head Dr. Andrew Mulwa.

The renewed partnership signals a strategic alignment of government and humanitarian efforts as Kenya intensifies its commitment to public health resilience and emergency readiness.
