The Social Health Authority (SHA) has temporarily suspended M.P. Shah Hospital from its list of contracted healthcare providers, raising questions over the nature of investigations being conducted against one of Nairobi’s leading private hospitals.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, SHA announced that the suspension took effect on June 23 and would remain in force until investigations are concluded.

“M.P. Shah Hospital has been temporarily suspended from the SHA panel of contracted healthcare providers, with effect from 23 June 2026, pending the conclusion of investigations,” the authority said.

The suspension affects services offered under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF) and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).

As a result, beneficiaries seeking new admissions, follow-up treatment and other services have been advised to seek care from other SHA-contracted facilities during the suspension period.

Patients who had already been admitted before the suspension took effect will, however, continue receiving treatment until discharge.

The notice did not disclose the nature of the investigations, leaving patients and healthcare stakeholders waiting for further details on what prompted the action against the hospital.

M.P. Shah is among the country’s most prominent private hospitals and serves thousands of patients under both private insurance and government-backed medical schemes.

The suspension comes as SHA continues tightening oversight of healthcare providers under the new health insurance system amid growing scrutiny of claims, compliance and service delivery standards.

“SHA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of beneficiaries and stakeholders and remains committed to safeguarding access to quality and accountable healthcare services,” the authority added.

For now, attention will be on the outcome of the investigations and whether the hospital will be reinstated to the SHA provider panel.
