Ministry of Health, led by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, engaged in a productive collaboration with the Council of Governors, chaired by Ahmed Abdullahi chair council of governors.
This partnership culminated in the signing of an Inter-Governmental Participatory Agreement aimed at enhancing medical equipment services in county public facilities under a Fee-for-Service Model.
The event, held in Mombasa County, was attended by Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health).
The Ministry also briefed the Council of Governors on key initiatives, including the operationalization of Primary Care Networks, the rollout of the Electronic Community Health Information System (ECHIS), and the provision of smartphones to Community.
Additionally, ongoing efforts in Mpox response and Marburg preparedness were highlighted, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing public health.
This innovative model allows vendors to provide essential equipment, consumables, reagents, and maintenance at no upfront cost to the facilities.
Revenue generated from these services will be shared based on tariffs established by the Social Health Authority (SHA).
During the signing ceremony, the Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by improving access to affordable, quality care across Kenya.
She emphasized that the Ministry will continue to support counties in equipping their facilities to ensure high-quality healthcare for all citizens.
Dr. Barasa also urged governors to actively promote SHA registration within their counties and encouraged all Kenyans to enroll with SHA to fully leverage the benefits of these healthcare enhancements.
