In a move to intensify austerity measures, the National Treasury has proposed a Ksh 94.6 million cut to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement benefits in the upcoming budget.
The adjustment will reduce his allocation from Ksh 371.46 million to Ksh 276.85 million.
Key reductions include Ksh 46.5 million (foreign travel), Ksh 23 million (insurance) and Ksh 11 million (domestic travel).
The cuts extend to other top retired officials, including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose allocation has been reduced by Ksh 23.9 million.
Former Vice Presidents Kalonzo Musyoka and Moody Awori will receive Ksh 52.9 million and Ksh 53.9 million, respectively.
The reductions come amid rising concerns over fiscal discipline and prioritization of essential services to deal with the country’s economic challenges.
