Military Officers Shine at StanChart Marathon

Lieutenant General David Tarus, Commander of the Kenya Army, and Major General Fatuma Ahmed, Commander of the Kenya Air Force, led a group of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers in the 2024 Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon yesterday.

Their participation, along with that of other KDF personnel, showcased the Force’s commitment to promoting health, resilience, and camaraderie.

In the elite category, KDF male athletes delivered impressive performances across various distances.

Private Vincent Mutai from Kahawa Garrison secured victory in the 21 km race, while Private Keyborn Obato from the Artillery Brigade finished in second place.

Corporal Njuguna from 2 Brigade also made a strong showing, finishing fourth in the men’s 10 km category.

KDF female athletes also shone during the event. Private Gladys Koech from the Kenya Navy took first place in the 21 km race, with Private Esther Chemutai from the Artillery Brigade finishing second.

Private Dorothy Kipkilach from 2 Brigade completed the strong performance by placing fifth, highlighting the determination and competitiveness of KDF women.

Both Commanders were among the distinguished guests who presented awards to the winners of the 10 km and 21 km races.

The event also featured other senior officers, including Brigadier Aloka, Chief of Systems Defence Headquarters, and Colonel Benedetta Kikech, Kenya Air Force Colonel Logistics, alongside various KDF senior officials.
