Mike Sonko home fire

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko’s residence was hit by a fire early Saturday morning, prompting an immediate response from Nairobi City County emergency personnel.

The blaze is understood to have started around dawn, with videos circulating online showing flames and heavy smoke billowing from part of the property.Sparks were visible near the affected exterior section, raising speculation that an electrical fault could have triggered the incident. However, the cause of the fire had not been confirmed by the time of publication.

Nairobi County firefighters, led by Customer Service Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, arrived at the scene and managed to contain the fire before it spread to other parts of the residence. Sonko later addressed the incident on social media, thanking the county disaster management team for responding quickly and confirming that he and the other occupants were safe.

“The devil is a liar! Just look at how much God loves us. Imagine, He woke us up!” Sonko said in a post.

He also expressed his appreciation to Mosiria and the emergency responders for their efforts.

“Mosiria, thank you so much and to your entire team from Nairobi County. May God bless you abundantly,” he added.

Videos shared by Sonko showed several people attempting to put out the flames as the fire lit up sections of the building in the early morning darkness.

The former governor explained that the occupants were awake when the fire broke out, enabling them to raise the alarm and contact the county emergency services. The full extent of the damage remained unclear, and there were no immediate reports confirming injuries. Authorities are expected to assess the property to establish the cause of the fire and determine the extent of the damage.
