Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and presidential hopeful Dr. Fred Matiang’i has formally joined the Jubilee Party, ending weeks of speculation over his political direction.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Abagusii community in Mavoko, Machakos County, on Sunday, Matiang’i announced that he had accepted former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s invitation to join the party and take part in its revival.

“I am declaring openly that I have joined Jubilee. As we said during the NDC, it’s time to join the Jubilee Party,” Matiang’i stated, referring to the National Delegates Conference (NDC) held last month.

Matiang’i, who attended the NDC but did not address delegates then, said his focus now is to rebuild the party into a vibrant national movement. He likened his political re-entry to an initiation ceremony, emphasizing loyalty and unity among members.

“All these aspirants who are here eyeing different seats should now wear Jubilee Party colours during our next meeting. I also have my Jubilee Party hat here,” he added.

The former CS revealed that Jubilee would soon begin opening offices across the country, starting with Embakasi and Kitengela, and that plans were underway to conduct grassroots elections for party officials.

He was accompanied by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi, and Githunguri MP Muthoni Wamuchomba, among other leaders.

Last weekend, while in Nakuru, Matiang’i defended his move to join Jubilee, saying every leader had the constitutional right to choose their political association.

Meanwhile, Deputy Council of Patriots (DCP) leader and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said he had no issue with Matiang’i’s political choice.

Speaking during a Sunday night interview on KTN, Gachagua said the country’s political momentum was shifting toward a united opposition aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

“The next election will be a two-horse race — the United Opposition versus William Ruto — and we will win by 70 plus one per cent,” Gachagua asserted, citing Matiang’i as one of the key figures in the emerging coalition.
