Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has hit back at claims suggesting he is a political project, calling such talk deceitful and aimed at distracting Kenyans from meaningful national discourse.
Speaking during an interview with K24 Tv on Monday, Matiang’i questioned the credibility of such claims, citing his past work with reputable institutions.
“I have also worked for the World Bank, why am I not being called a World Bank project now?” he posed.
Matiang’i, who has been the subject of speculation over a possible presidential bid, emphasized that no one should be disqualified from leadership ambitions based on political rumors.
“The notion that I am a project of someone is deceitful propaganda. It’s meant to derail us from more important issues of building this nation,” he said.

He added that when the right time comes, it will be up to Kenyans to evaluate the qualifications of those seeking leadership.
“Soon we will be interviewed by Kenyans to see if we are qualified for the job. You cannot tell me that I should not front myself when that time comes,” Matiang’i remarked.
