The Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) has successfully obtained court orders freezing 11 properties linked to businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu, also known as Mathe wa Ngara.

The orders, issued by Justice Benjamin Musyoki, direct that the title deeds for the properties, located in Juja and Vihiga, be surrendered.

The judge further instructed the Chief Land Registrar to place caveats on the properties, preventing their sale or transfer.

Kigunzu, who was arrested in August 2024 at an apartment in Juja, is facing serious narcotics trafficking charges.

During the arrest, authorities recovered several items suspected to be connected to her illicit activities, including six sacks of plant material believed to be narcotics, a weighing scale, a brown diary, empty sacks, and numerous title deeds.

This arrest is part of a broader investigation, as Kigunzu had previously faced similar charges at the JKIA court in earlier cases.

The ARA alleges that she amassed significant wealth through drug trafficking, using complex methods to conceal the origins of her income.

The agency further claims that many of the properties and assets are registered in the names of her associates to hide her true ownership.

As part of the court orders, any rental income generated from the Juja apartments must now be deposited into an account held by the ARA at Kenya Commercial Bank.

Additionally, the court has prohibited the sale or transfer of two vehicles registered to Kigunzu and her associate, George Jumba.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has been instructed to place caveats on the vehicles’ records, further restricting their transfer.

The ARA continues its investigation into Kigunzu’s alleged criminal activities, asserting that the frozen assets were acquired through proceeds from the narcotics trade.
