KCB FC versus Mara Sugar.

KCB FC’s aspirations to reignite their title challenge took a hit after being held to a 1-1 draw by Mara Sugar in a tightly contested Kenya Premier League encounter at the Awendo Stadium earlier today.

The Bankers, led by Head Coach Patrick ‘Luwowo’ Odhiambo, have struggled for consistency in recent weeks—managing just one win in their last five matches.

Their only victory in that stretch came against Ulinzi Stars on March 15, followed by two defeats and now a pair of draws.

Determined to shift momentum, Odhiambo had expressed confidence ahead of the clash, emphasizing the importance of a win to keep pressure on league leaders Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Police FC.

“The season is still far from over and I believe we have what it takes to fight for the title. Mathematically, we’re still in it. I urge my players to step up and fight for the badge,” said Odhiambo. “We respect Mara Sugar for their impressive debut season, but we came to Awendo aiming for all three points.”

KCB looked on course for victory when Patrick Otieno found the back of the net in the 25th minute.

However, Mara Sugar clawed their way back into the contest, equalizing in the 64th minute through a well-taken spot kick by Frederick Ng’iela.

The result sees KCB FC remain in fourth place on the league table with 41 points—eight adrift of the top spot—trailing behind Police FC, Tusker, and Gor Mahia.
