The road to the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale continued this past weekend with more golfers securing their spots following an intense qualifier at Mombasa Golf Club.
Gurbux Singh produced a solid round of 77 to emerge as the Overall Gross Winner, earning a coveted place in the Grand Finale set for Muthaiga Golf Club in November.
In the handicap categories:
- Division A saw George Githinji claim top honors with a score of 72, playing off handicap 8. He edged out Victor Simbi, who tied on 73 with Martin Wahome, but finished second on countback. Wahome settled for third.
- Division B was dominated by Clifford Tolo, who posted an outstanding 64 to lead the field. Sam Muraya followed closely with 65, while George Mokaya secured third with 71.
- Division C went to Salim Taib, who shot 69 to beat Vincent Muriungi (70) and Paul Munyao (71) into second and third place respectively.
With these results, Singh, Githinji, Tolo, and Taib join the growing roster of players qualified for the Muthaiga showdown.
Meanwhile, at the Railway Golf Club, Isaac Makhoha delivered a commanding performance to win the 2025 NCBA Railway Invitational, which concluded on Sunday, August 31.
Competing in a field of 72 players from across Kenya, Makhoha finished at 5-under-par 211 over three rounds, edging out defending champion Michael Karanga (4-under-par 212) and John Lejirma (1-over-par 217), who finished second and third respectively.
Makhoha, who plays with a hearing disability, set the pace early with a blistering 4-under-par 68 in the opening round, followed by 1-under 71 in the second. Despite a double bogey on the 8th hole of the final round, he held steady to finish level-par for the day and secure the title.
Karanga, who had a slow start with back-to-back rounds of 72, staged a late comeback with a brilliant 4-under 68 on the final day but fell just short. Lejirma, the current national leader, struggled on day one with a 2-over 74 but steadied with rounds of 71 and 72 to round out the podium.
With this victory, Makhoha moves up to fourth in the national standings with 753 points. Lejirma remains top with 2,050 points, followed by Karanga (1,712) and Elvis Muigus (1,046).
