Kenya Lionesses stormed into the Africa Women’s 7s semi-finals after overpowering Zimbabwe 33–12 at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday morning.
From the opening whistle, the Kenyan side set the tempo. Freshia Awino struck first, launching what would become an impressive hat-trick.
Moments later, Nelly Chikombe turned on the speed down the left wing, crossing for Kenya’s second try, with Grace Adhiambo adding the conversion.
Awino then sliced through the defence once again, using a sharp step on the flank to secure her second try and hand Kenya a commanding 19–0 lead at halftime.
Zimbabwe, determined to stay in the contest, responded with an early try after the break. But that only reignited the Lionesses’ momentum.
Awino completed her treble with a powerful run straight through the middle, grounding the ball beneath the posts. Adhiambo’s reliable boot made it 26–5.
The Lady Cheetahs fought back with a converted try of their own, narrowing the gap, but the hosts were not about to let the match slip.
Phoebe Akinyi sealed the result with Kenya’s fifth try of the match, and Adhiambo slotted the final conversion to confirm the Lionesses’ place in the last four.
