Professor Makau Mutua has clapped back at critics unhappy with his government appointment.

On Wednesday, April 30, President William Ruto appointed Mutua as the Senior Advisor of Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President.

In his new role, Mutua will be advising Ruto on constitutional matters, supporting legal reforms, and promoting human rights and the rule of law.

Taking to X a day later, Mutua addressed the critics unhappy with his move to accept the appointment, saying he had accumulated a lot of knowledge in the law profession abroad and it is prudent for him to now serve his country.

"Why are some folks vexed — anguished — about my decision to accept the appointment by H.E President William Ruto as Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs. I’ve spent my entire life in the law at the highest levels, especially in the United States. I can’t think of a better way to serve my native Kenya," said Mutua.

The lawyer said he believes his expertise in the law will be of good service to President Ruto and the country

"I am sure some of those upset would readily accept the appointment. Chill, folks, and let those who are qualified, serve the country. I believe my expertise will be of good service to the President and the country," he added.
